Mad Men Yourself

Pick out a dress, pretty yourself up, and download the result as an icon or desktop wallpaper: Mad Men Yourself. Here's what I would look like as a Sterling Cooper secretary... I think I could give Joan a run for her money, non?

p.s - the big news... yes, that's about me!

And the sandwich says...

"The Sandwich Report," a research study commissioned by Hellmann's and Best Foods Mayonnaise as part of their Build the Perfect Sandwich program, claims that your favorite sandwich can offer a window into your personality type. Choose your favorite sandwich and scroll down for a window into your soul. Along with the author, I’m an egg salad fan (and hence, apparently, "charming and energetic"); what are you?

The Club: Individuals who prefer the club sandwich are often agreeable and unselfish. Club sandwich eaters are reliable and strongly devoted to work as well as relationships. The best words to describe those who prefer the club sandwich: committed and loyal. Club sandwich fans are most compatible with those who chose club, BLT, or turkey.

Ham & Cheese: Ham-and-cheese-sandwich lovers are curious and have a wide range of interests. They are most productive and creative when working alone without direct supervision. The best words to describe those who prefer the ham-and-cheese sandwich: thoughtful and inquisitive. Ham-and-cheese-sandwich lovers are often independent, without strong romantic ties.

Turkey: Those who prefer the turkey sandwich are freethinkers. They function best when given space at work and in relationships. The best words to describe those who prefer the turkey sandwich: creative and rebellious. Turkey sandwich lovers are often attracted to other turkey sandwich lovers.

Tuna Salad: Tuna-salad-sandwich eaters are generally aggressive and achievement-oriented. They are natural leaders and driven to succeed in both work and personal relationships. The best words to describe those who prefer the tuna salad sandwich: competitive and successful. They are most romantically compatible with those who prefer egg salad and others who like tuna salad.

Egg Salad: Egg-salad enthusiasts are often the center of attention. They are entertaining and crave adventure. The best words to describe those who prefer egg-salad sandwich: charming and energetic. Egg salad sandwich lovers are the "universal romantic," and they are often compatible with all sandwich lovers.

Chicken Salad: Individuals that prefer the chicken-salad sandwich are well-adjusted and empathic. The best words to describe those who prefer chicken salad sandwich: easygoing and understanding. They are most romantically compatible with those preferring egg-salad sandwiches.

The best words to describe those who prefer seafood sandwich: committed and loyal. They are most romantically compatible with those who prefer the BLT or seafood salad sandwich.

Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato: BLT lovers are conscientious perfectionists. They are devoted in all areas of their lives: work, home, and relationships. The best words to describe those who prefer the BLT sandwich: honest and full of integrity. BLT-sandwich lovers are most compatible with those who prefer seafood salad sandwich.

Scrap Award

Lindsey tagged me for the Scrap Award... It's my first award and I'm super excited. The rules are as follows:
  • List ten honest things about yourself that your blogging friends do not know about you.
  • Give the award away to seven (or 10?) bloggers.
  • Let the seven (or 10?) bloggers know they have received the award.
  • Link back to the person who awarded you.

    Here goes...
    1. I make a "mew" sound in my sleep. No joke
    2. My left eye changes colour (from brown to green) when I have a headache
    3. I grew up on a farm and my parents grew the tomatoes that went to the International Space Station.
    4. I am a harbourer of lost pets. I like to play with them for a bit before I call their owner or try to return them. Please don't think I'm a bad person.
    5. I was my high school's mascot. Go Lions!
    6. I celebrate my birthanukkah - the 7 wonderful days of wonderfulness before my birthday! It involves a little present every night leading up to my actual birthday + present.
    7. I constantly botch catch phrases... i.e. pooched the dog (screwed the pooch), six of a dozen - half of another (six of one - half dozen of another), that really burns my bridges (burns my britches)... You get the idea.
    8. Carrots instantly give me the hiccups
    9. I can make the Cindy-Lou-Who face from Dr Seuss' The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
    10. I used to keep a blog called 'The Daily Receipt' where I posted the items on purchase receipts I found while waiting at the supermarket self scan check-out. Here is my favorite receipt ever;
      • 3 boxes of bandaids,
      • 1 bag of Bic razors
      • 1 bag Doritos
      • 1 litre Häagen-Dazs
      • Ear plugs
      • 1 child size swimming pool
      • 1 Cat Fancy magazine
      • Midol
      • 3 jars of marshmallow Fluff
      • 1 box Tampax Tampons
      • 1 Telescoping shovel
Clearly this person was having a bad(?) day...

I am sending the Scrap Award to - Anne at The City Sage , Dottie at dottie angel and Michelle at M.A.Belle. If you are reading and would like to participate, please do but be sure to follow the rules.

Fashion Crime

Forgive me fashion gods, for I have sinned. I got really tired of paying my drycleaner a ridiculous amount of money every week to ruin my beautiful silk dresses. So last night, I... I... machine washed them {gasp!} myself -in a front loader on the delicate/handwash cycle. In other news... Looks like peanut butter DOES come out of silk. Booyah!

See people, I'm doing my part to save the earth by not having my delicates drycleaned in toxic chemicals and stored in horrible plastic bags. Good bye drycleaning, hello 50$ in my pocket.

p.s. - while I am confessing, I also washed my favorite blue coat and it turned out fine.
p.s.s - this is in no way an endorsement to forgo the drycleaner and wash your delicates.

500 Days of Summer

I just watched the sneak peak for 500 days of Summer staring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and it looks fantastic! It's being called an "anti-love story" with a tagline that reads "Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn't." The film received rave reviews at Sundance and it's set to debute at your local theatre on either July 17th or July 24. You can bet that yours truly will be standing in line with her box of kleenex and a pocket full of penny candy.

Just look at how cute these two look together...

On the 'exciting personal news' front, Dr and I went for a drive after work in two very different neighbourhoods {one features a cupcake shop, the other boasts to die for Italian sandwiches and pubs} and saw two great houses. If everything goes as expected, we're looking to purchase our first home together sometime in the next year and we are over the moon excited. We are renting a great place now, but the idea of real permanency has me long-term dreaming...

5 minutes to look your best

Spring is coming and with the change of seasons comes time to replace your makeup. I’ve tried many products at different price points but these five products, while a touch pricey, are my tried and true favorites. For the perfect 5 minute face I start with YSL Top Secrets Flash Radiance which evens out my skin tone and a few swipes of Bobbi Brown bronzer* across my cheeks and forehead. The great thing about Bobbi Brown bronzer in particular is the perfect “sun kissed” look it gives without the addition of sparkle. My eyes are one of my best features and to emphasize them I use Bobbi Brown Longwear gel eyeliner in a mauve-black and YSL #5 Faux Cils for big and bold eyelashes. I finish up with a quick swipe of #5 YSL Touche Brilliance lipgloss in a soft sparkly pink and out the door I go!

*Depending on the day, I may substitute bronzer for Nars “O” blush which gives the perfect rosy glow to tired skin.

The perfect 5 minute face to help to you brave the world looking your best. What do you use to look your best in just 5 minutes?

Mellow Yellow - Inspiration on a sad day

Growing up my father used to sing me this song when I was sad.

I’m hoping that life will look a little brighter tomorrow.
