Kristen Davis for Belk

Remember the SJP Bitten line? It seems that now it’s Kristen Davis’ turn to be designer. Kristen has been quoted by CNN as saying that everything coming down the runway is something you would see the stylish Charlotte York wearing and can be labeled as “sexy secretary.” Davis’ line is made up of dresses, shoes and swimsuits that are versatile enough to look good on every body type. The Belk website is not showing many options for the line so I’m curious to know if anyone has seen these pieces in person? The brocade dress is adorable, especially with the bow detail at the waist but I’m curious to know more about the quality and fit.

A Davis fashion tip: Green. "It's THE color" she says.

Two-Cents Tuesday

Anyone who reads this blog knows by now that I’m obsessed with dresses. Give me a dress and I can make it work, give me a closet full of skirts and tops to choose from and I fail miserably. I have found through experience that many my friends shy away from dresses because they initially cost more. While this is true, if you purchase a versatile dress, you can wear it no matter what the event or occasion. While the dress may be expensive, you can easily pair it with inexpensive cardigans, vintage accessories and cute shoes and look like a million bucks. With so many lovelies to choose from this season, I’m going to feature my favorites, along with my two-cents every Tuesday in hopes that I can inspire other people to give dresses a try.

Unfortunately net-a-porter doesn’t give the length measurements on its website so keep in mind that when you are looking at these pictures that these dresses are shown on a form that is a size 6 and 5’11 or 5’12 tall. Depending on how tall you are, the dress may hit much lower on your leg.

Dress 1 – Marc by Marc Jacobs Habotai ruffle-front dress. The colour of this dress {Parisian Blue} is absolutely breathtaking. The dress itself, while it appears to be dressy, can be worn casually with a quick change of the shoe, the addition of a t-shirt or tank, and a pair of flats. Overall the ruffles keep the neckline proper and also add emphasis to your upper body which is great if you are a slight pear shape. The waist is a self tie which means you could swap out the sash for a structured belt to give it a completely different look. Depending on the length, this dress would look fantastic paired with gold accessories and sandals/flats for the office. If the dress sits more than an inch or two above the knee, you’d have to leave this in the closet for weekend and occasion wear only - but don’t let that scare you! This is a perfect dress to wear for a spring/summer/fall wedding / on vacation with a tank top or over your bathing suit if you are out and about / for a casual stroll to the market and brunch with your family & friends / or, my personal favourite, and as the colour suggests, in Paris strolling along the Seine.

Dress 2 – Juicy Couture Strawberry Print Mini Dress. Make sure you enlarge this picture to see the full details {yolk, front pleat, belt, eyelet detail} of this dress. This is a perfect addition to any vintage-lovers closet – and unlike vintage, you can reasonably guarantee this version will fit! While this dress does have a belt, it is still relatively unstructured {yolk neckline / front pleat} making me question whether it is best suited to someone who is quite slender, or petite. That said, I urge everyone to try things that are maybe a little outside their comfort zone before they rule them out completely {thanks TLC’s What Not To Wear!} This dress is more seasonal and less dressy than #1, and the pattern makes it more memorable. That said, it works equally as well for work attire with a jacket and heels as it does with a jean jacket and flats for the weekend. Again there is no measurement given so the same rule applies when it comes to length.

*The style of sandals paired with dress #1 would work equally as well for both dresses and make for easy walking on the weekends or to the office. I have something similar to these are on my radar come summer.

I do :: SATC style

Avid SATC fans will instantly recognize this dress as the gown that Carrie wore in the movie {first in the Vogue spread and then to the wedding that didn’t happen}. It seems only fitting that with the second movie in the works that Vivienne Westwood release the “Lilly wedding gown” so everyone can embrace their inner SJP.

Maybe it’s just me but for 10,000$ I’d expect to get a little more dress (this baby is tea-length) and a little less sag in the chest. Just saying.

Spring Inspiration - Myth & Ritual

Myth & Ritual has one of the best collections of pretty things for Spring. I love the incorporation of chiffon and colourful satins into everyday dresses, as well as the accessories (I need to make a fantastic alice bow band for Spring!) and the use of Polaroids.

Seriously, I'll take one of each please!

Check out the Myth & Ritual website for more inspiration and past collections. This is one company I will definitely be keeping my eye on.

Mid-Century Royal Treatment

Kudos to Peter Shire for having a great imagination.  Although whimsical, I won’t be jumping on this wagon.  I like my Eames shell chairs as is.  What do you think?

Yabba-Dabba Do - Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane describes his Spring 2009 collection as, "a prehistoric concoction of tunics, dresses and killer heels inspired by everything from the Flintstones to busty cave-girl-on-the-run, Raquel Welch,"

Spring 2009 is all about the florals & corals, Kane has hit it right on the mark! There is something so ethereal about the silk scallops and the way these dresses move. They are young and fun while maintaining a sophisticated and timeless appeal. It’s clear why Kane was named Young Designer of the Year at the 2006 Scottish Fashion Awards.

MIMOSA Monday - Interior Edition

In keeping with the MIMOSA Monday theme, many of you will remember Marie's Memphis Apartment recently featured over at Apartment Therapy.

Due to the high demand, Marie has since posted a house tour of sorts over at Facebook. Here are my favorites.

If I lived in this apartment, I would constantly be smiling. I love the historical qualities seen all around the apartment (i.e. floors, wainscotting, china cabinet) and Marie's choice of colours, the fantastic reclaimed Jenny Lind-style bed, and her use of vintage and new materials to create a timeless feel throughout. MIMOSA Monday - Fashion Edition

As seen over at The Scoop, Pantone® has announced its pick for Color of the Year for 2009... 14-0848 Mimosa - a bold, saturated yellow.

The 2009 color of the year represents the hopeful and radiant characteristics associated with the color yellow. Mimosa is a versatile shade that coordinates with any other color, has appeal for men and women, and translates to both fashion and interiors. Look for women's accessories, home furnishings, active sportswear and men's ties and shirts in this vibrant hue.

Yellow has always been one of my favorite colours because it makes me feel happy. I just can't help but smile when I see it or wear it. We could all stand to surround ourselves with a bit more MIMOSA.

I ♥ those shoes.
I've had this picture saved for quite some time and I'm afraid to admit that I have lost the source information. If I am a regular at your blog and you posted this picture, please let me know so I can properly credit you.

Hunter Wellies

In keeping with the rainy theme of the day, I recently discovered love, church & state. I love everything about their collection. This picture reminds me of Spring on the farm; the dress is typical kitty-wear, and I am especially drawn to the boots. I admit to owning the Wellies (shown on the model) in black, but after seeing this photo, I am wishing for a pair in red for the coming season.

{Note: I'm a size 7}

Rainy Day Blues

I woke up this morning to rain. After months of cold white precipitation, our snow in the front yard is finally starting to melt. Normally this would give me hope that Spring is on the way, except for the fact that the rain is supposed to change to freezing rain, then change to ice pellets and gusting winds, and eventually change to more of the dreaded white stuff.

Mother Nature, if you are listening, it's me, Kitty. Please send sun and warm weather so I can trade in my coat for a ruffle bottom swimsuit from Orla Kiely.

Smythe Statement

Now this is what I call a statement jacket.... Sourcing it will be a whole other story. Smythe is notoriously tough to find, does not distribute or sell online, and ships randomly. Did I mention they are Canadian and totally worth it ?!

Check out the Smythe Spring 2009 collection here.

Interesting factoid - Tommy Smythe, designer and television regular (Sarah's House / Room Service - Sarah Richardson) is the brother of Christie Smythe - co-designer of Smythe jackets.

Goodbye my friend

While I continue to {less than patiently} wait for my last copy of Domino, I thought it would be a suitable tribute to post a smattering of my very favorite images from previous editions.

{click here for the sad news.}

We'll miss you Domino!

Spring Inspiration from Chloe

Spring hasn’t even sprung and already my wallet is looking empty. These oversize bow wedge sandals from Chloe are perfect - great colour, nice bow detail across the toe, chic wedge heel. The icing on the cupcake is that despite the hefty pricetag (685), they are perfect for both work and casual life. I do hope they go on sale!
